  • Artist’s Statement

    Fueled by her passion for all things interesting and quirky, Mel Bling’s art is full of energy and charm. She is incredibly talented and has a gifted ability to create realistic representations with a playful edge. Much like her personality, her artwork invites viewers to connect with its innate jest. Bling skillfully paints subjects that bring together Australian culture, nostalgia, wildlife and fine art. From a lobster wearing a floatie, a seagull stealing designer glasses at the beach and a shark named “Chomp’, there is a whimsical sense of joy in each painting. Bling’s goal is to resonate with people by connecting them to art they love, and to create works based on positivity.

  • Biography

    Born in Sydney, Mel creates between Jindabyne, the Central Coast and Cairns, choosing to alternate between wood burning (pyrography), charcoals and oils.

    Mel joins Downlands under the collection of Aspire Gallery (Brisbane, Qld), but is also represented by KAB Gallery in NSW. In 2024, she has been nominated as Finalist in a number of awards including the Stanthorpe Art Prize (Qld), Lethbridge Small Scale Art Prize (Qld) and Art to Art Unearthed Art Prize (VIC), and was awarded the Runner Up in Aspire Gallery's Annual "Petite Pieces" Art Prize.

  • Influences

    5 years of formal art training, 3 decades of planning, 20 years of gypsy style family travel and extensive entrepreneurial experience are the elements that are behind the work of Mel Bling. Her love of nature combined with obsession with fine art, added to a definitive quirkiness all contributes to her addictive style, always with an end goal to enliven a sense of genuine optimism.
