Colleen Gardener

Colleen Gardener

  • Artist’s Statement

Colleen works at a frantic pace, exhibiting regularly and painting daily. She works in oils, acrylics and sometimes charcoal and has always been attracted to the Impressionists. She shifts from land and seascapes to still life, flora and fauna, as easily as clearing her work space and sees things mainly as shapes, which allows her to move into whichever catergory appeals at the time. At the moment she is working entirely in acrylics with her latest body of work being the parks and gardens of Toowoomba. Six of these current works along with three still lifes, are here in Margaret Street Gallery Grand Opening, where Colleen is the guest artist.

  • Biography

After closing a successful career in ceramics for 30 years in Western Australia, Colleen relocated to Queensland in 2003 and took up painting seriously a few years later….describing the shift from ceramics to painting “ as similar, in the fact, that the design elements were the same and the dressing of the canvas similar to the decorating of the surface of the pot “…..” its all about the decorated surface “. Primarily a self taught painter, Colleen has notched up many prizes and awards, winning emerging artist award in her first 6 months of painting, sponsored by Lasting Impressions Gallery Kenelworth Qld., with works represented nationally and overseas.
