The RME Downlands Art Exhibition feature artist for 2024 is Christine Porter, known for her artwork depicting shearing sheds in western Queensland. This year marks 40 years since her first shearing shed artwork. Christine has created over a hundred different shearing shed artworks across Australia, capturing the industry’s significance and integrity.
Graham Centre
The RME Downlands Art Exhibition is held in the College’s Graham Centre. This is at the top of the curved driveway, the entry on Ruthven Street, Toowoomba. We will continue this grand tradition in 2023. Our curator, Evan Hollis, strives to present a large, formal gallery space with artworks curated primarily by genre, subject and media application. Accepted artworks are of a high standard whereby more affordable works are often hung near serious investment pieces creating an interesting viewing experience and purchasing options for all browsers.
During the exhibition refreshments are available at the Café in Tudor Hall which is adjacent to the Graham Centre. Visitors can relax with morning or afternoon tea or lunch whilst contemplating your newly acquired art under the shaded café tables.
Our Students
Downlands College Visual Arts students are our primary visual arts focus here at the college and the main reason for the inception of our educational oriented art exhibition since 1986.

Want to volunteer?
Our exhibition relies heavily upon the committed efforts of a few very dedicated staff members, but it simply would not function were it not for the team of volunteers who rally around the project each year. It’s the passion of these volunteers that is most evident during exhibition week when the public are milling about amongst the exhibits and the grand scale of our enterprise is fully realised.
Volunteers are essential for receiving works, hanging and demounting, hospitality services, some administration and also floor sales staff. If you think you could help out during August/September as we bring the show together or maybe get involved in the Gallery Store throughout the year, please use the contact form on the volunteer page and let us know how you’d like to help.
